Newspapers - one of the many culprits

Information overload £4.10

Humans - especially those who think up the programming schedules for music channels - like to reminisce about the 1970s and 80s.

But we climbed out of the trees 2 millions years ago, and will be around for a few million more! (Hopefully - see here and here.) That's an awful lot of decades. The future MTV could run a whole year of "Remember the 376870s", "The Fantastic 376880s" and "Top 100 Songs of the 376890s" and only barely scratch the surface. All available land on Earth will be full of warehouses containing CDs and CD compilations and TV shows about the compilations. History students will have to use conveyor belts and pulleys to tranfer their textbooks between classes. War reporters will have to remember that World War 5278 was a particularly bad one.

Where will we put it all? How will we cope? If these conundrums ever come up around your dinner table, you might need a clever opinion so you can divert the conversation to more familiar ground. Let me do the thinking for this one.
